Touring Awaji Island

I spent two days this week touring around Awaji Island, which is located about one hour to the west of Osaka.  The island is connected to Honshu in the north by the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge (as you can see in the first picture), which was completed in 1998 and is the longest suspension bridge in the world, and connected to Shikoku in the south by the Onaruto Bridge (the last picture), completed in 1985.

At the southern tip of the island before arriving at the infamous Naruto whirlpools, I had the chance to stop by the Awaji Island Monkey Center before continuing on my journey.

With many sightseeing spots, hot springs, and an assortment of delicious food available, spending a full day or two around Awaji Island is a great way to unwind from the life in the city.  Also, as public transportation is almost non-existent, going by car is highly recommended.
