Japan Luxury Travel Forum 2011

Late last week I took part in the Japan Luxury Travel Forum 2011 seminar held at the Hotel Granvia Kyoto.  Highlighting on how to attract high net worth travelers to the region, Ricco DeBlank of Sun Hung Kai Properties based in Hong Kong and James Samuel of Reed Exhibitions out of the United Kingdom where on hand to share their insights with the Kyoto-based majority crowd.

It was a pleasure to see Ricco again as I had not seen him since he left his post as the general manager of the Ritz-Carlton Osaka property in 2007.  After leaving Osaka, Ricco moved to Tokyo to open the Ritz-Carlton Tokyo hotel before coming to his current position as CEO for the hotel division at Sun Hung Kai Properties.

Following the talks of Ricco and James, a panel discussion was held with representatives from the Hyatt Regency Kyoto, Kyoto City Tourism Bureau and Iori.

I have highlighted Iori in the past on my blog here and here.  For those wishing to experience a traditional Japanese machiya (townhouse) around Kyoto city, I highly suggest one of Iori's properties.

The finished product from the photo shoot that I participated in last month for the Hotel Granvia Kyoto can be viewed here. Even though it was a little chilly out being the middle of December, I thoroughly enjoyed myself wandering around the city of Kyoto dressed as a ninja.

For those of you wanting to have a one-of-a-kind experience in Kyoto, I highly suggest you take part in the cosplay (costume play) program currently being offered by the hotel while it lasts!

Ninjas in Kyoto 京都で忍者

At the request of the Hotel Granvia Kyoto for their overseas advertising campaign, some friends and I took part in a photo shoot at various locations in Kyoto as ninjas, maiko, miko, etc. on Sunday, December 20. To kick things off, we started our journey at Toei Kyoto Studio Park, formerly known as the Hollywood of Japan, with its scenic backdrops and sets. Even though it was my second time at the park, I was surprised to see many guests dressed up in "cosplay" (costume play). As we were dressed up as well, we fit right in!

After spending a good amount of time having our picture taken at Toei Kyoto Studio Park, we changed venues and headed towards one of the main shopping arcades in Kyoto at Shinkyogoku to mingle with the natives. After all was said and done, it was definitely a fun way to spend a pleasant winter day in Kyoto.

12月20日（日）にホテルグランヴィア京都さんのご要望にお応えして、海外観光客向けの広告を作成するために、私は友人何人かと共に京都のいたるところで、忍者、舞妓さん、巫女さんなどのコスプレモデルをしてまいりました。舞台背景やセットで日本のハリウッドと云われる東映太秦映画村を皮切りに新京極商店街など京都のいたるところで撮影が行なわれました。東映太秦映画村は私にとって2回目でしたが、「コスプレ」（コスチューム プレイ）をしている入場者は半端な数ではありませんでした。やはりみんな行く人はノリノリでしたね！

東映太秦映画村で多くの写真を撮ってもらい楽しい時間を過ごしたあとは、京都のメインの商店街である新京極商店街に場所を移し、数え切れないほどたくさんの人たちのなかで遊ぶことができ、京都の楽しい冬の日を過ごすことができました。また是非機会がありましたら、京都でコスプレをしたいですね！

Dinner in Kyoto（京都で夕食）

On Wednesday, August 12, I traveled to Kyoto for a dinner appointment with three of Hotel Granvia Kyoto's finest. After meeting inside of the hotel, we headed out to have some cocktails with some Maiko (the girl in the picture goes by the name of Tomoyuki) before moving to have some Korean food in the outside terrace at a restaurant along side the most famous and picturesque river in Kyoto, the Kamo River. Great company, great food, and great atmosphere. You really cannot ask for much more for a mild summer night in Kyoto.

8月12日水曜日にホテルグランヴィア京都の女性スタッフ3人と「京都の夜」を満喫してきました。ホテル内で待ち合わせし、舞妓さんとカクテル楽しむため先斗町歌舞練場の舞妓茶屋まで足を運びました。（写真の舞妓さんは「朋ゆき」と言います）その後、京都で最も有名で絵になる川である鴨川沿いの桟敷付きの韓国料理レストランに場を移しました。素敵な仲間、おいしい料理、すばらしい雰囲気！京都の夏の夜はそんなに暑くもなくこの上なく心地よかったです。グランヴィア京都のスタッフのお話によると、5月から9月までは桟敷で食事等が楽しめるそうです。
